Terapeak Category Research Function for Amazon and eBay eCommerce Marketing

I'd say marketing research is the key to make profit by eCommerce. For niche choosing, less famous niche can help your store standout from your competitors. Setting the price and what products to sell in your chosen niche are the most important for eCommerce.

How to conduct marketing research?

You can conduct it "Manually" which means you search similar products on each of the eCommerce platform and record their prices and information. And you can check the hot niche on the eCommerce platforms, for example you can check the hot products sold on eBay by checking their <daily deals>. It's workable but large amount of time is consumed and it isn't effective. Also you'll just follow the trend that everyone knows, so you have to face many competitors. I wouldn't suggest using this "manual marketing" way to conduct a research. At the beginning of this post, I've mentioned choosing a right niche isn't the key to make large profit in eCommerce, so why is the Category Research powerful? It's because you can also find out the second or the third most "hot" niche to sell in the Category Research which isn't mentioned in Amazon and eBay official pages. It also specifies the popularity of sub-categories. I suggest by making use of this function, you can choose a category that you're interested in, no matter how total sales it is, and then click the category and find out the popularity of sub-categories and choose the second or the third popular sub-category. That's the niche you target to sell! Say for an example, my interest is Computer/Tablets & Networking. I click the category as shown above and you'll get the following:

You can see in the category Computer/Tablets & Networking, Computer Components & Parts is the second highest of total sales in eBay and Tablets & eBook Readers is the third. Of course, you can also conduct category research according to Amazon platform using Terapeak. After getting those useful information, I'll find computer components or eBook reader related products to sell on eBay or Amazon. I'll share where I import products to sell later. As mentioned before, those sub-categories are chosen because of less competitors, it means you can have bigger chance to sell your product. I wouldn't suggest to choose the lowest total sales of sub-category because the demand should be too low in the trend so the supply is low too, you even can't get any product view a day! So I wouldn't suggest this risky strategy.
